Helen E. Ingham AKA the Hi-Artz Press

I am a text artist-printer and designer and began researching and using letterpress in 2002, when I set up the Hi-Artz Press in my back bedroom, which served me well until I quickly outgrew it. I wouldn't describe myself as a Luddite, but I still extensively use this 500+ year old print technology in my work which has been described as a timeless meeting point between graphic design and fine art.

Following earlier careers in traditional animation, music and design, I studied at Central St Martins College of Art, during which time I  worked as an intern for Hatch Showprint in Nashville, Tennessee (who have been producing show posters since 1879).

I graduated from Central St Martins with an MA in Communication Design in 2005.  My final show, which featured a set of 16 posters, was described by many as a breath of fresh air in a largely digital environment.

In addition to my own work, I am a letterpress instructor at London Metropolitan University and Central St Martins where I lecture and run short courses. In addition, I offer tailor made workshops in letterpress for companies at a central London location. I also run illustration and print workshops with school children of all ages and backgrounds, hopefully developing a confidence and further interest in art, design and written communication.  I also takes part in the  Friends of St Bride Library Conferences, giving live demonstrations  on a Victorian Albion press.

My limited edition work is available through TAG Fine Arts

My illustration work is represented by The Art Market
